Blogging Projects in Haringey

STM

Before I started the Transformation Teachers Programme, I had already started an “info-blog”, mainly aimed at my GCSE and A Level Students.

Having been challenged to think more specifically about the use of blogs in education, and having seen some good examples (in particular St Mary’s Bannockburn Blog, I decided I ought to try and think of ways that I could use blogs to support AfL, to encourage and support pupil voice and to increase motivation.

The idea was to introduce this Year 8 blog by first showing a couple of ICT projects that the class has worked on recently, then asking the pupils to feedback their ideas (2 stars and a wish) using the blog. However, I couldn’t get the videos to play (aargh!!!) so had to try and quickly get them onto the blog while trying to fix the problem. Therefore, the pupils haven’t really had a great intro into “What is a blog?”! It’s more of a case of pushing them in at the deep end and hoping that they will swim rather than sink!

About four students eventually managed to submit something – however, many more pupils did look at the website on web safety and completed that activity. I hope that they may feedback some more ideas before we meet again. I may try and find them over the next week and given them a print out with some instructions and the blog address, and see if I can increase the participation – and the feedback – before next lesson.

It’s great to see that their English teacher has already commented on their work as well on the blog. I hope that this will encourage them. I will keep in touch!
